An exhibition of the work of Tatiana Macedo and Luis Paulo Costa was staged in an emblematic ‘White Cube’ Gallery in Lisbon with the house lights turned off. The curators were keen to build a sense of atmosphere by adding light sparingly, barely illuminating the work, rather than the gallery itself. The title ‘Penumbra’ shares the same reading in both English and Portuguese and signifies obscurity, gloom or half-light. The publication discusses the artists’ work in detail as it develops the conceptual and spatial argument for the exhibition.
